UNIQUE | Motherhood and Craftsmanship: Embracing Slow Living in Business - Meet LARA

Posted by Aylén Avalos on

At Casia, we celebrate what makes each person unique. Our mission is to encourage people to connect with their true essence and live authentically. In this spirit, we love exploring the stories and experiences of those who inspire us on the journey to a more conscious way of living. That’s the idea behind UNIQUE—a space where we share the unique perspectives of the fascinating people we meet along the way.

Today, we introduce you to Lara, a 31-year-old from Buenos Aires, and the creator of Indian Creek, a concept store offering handcrafted apparel, decorations, and accessories. What started as a hobby seven years ago has evolved into her full-time career. Over time, her husband Pato joined her in this project, and together they launched Galga, a coffee and decor shop that blends specialty coffee, pastries, and Lara's handmade products. The idea for the shop was inspired by Landa, their beloved greyhound. Recently, their family grew with the birth of their first child, Margarita, four months ago.

We spent a day with Lara and her family, getting a glimpse into how they balance professional and personal life. By embracing slower rhythms, Lara takes on the challenges of new motherhood while pushing forward with her creative endeavors and business projects.

This is a story about finding harmony between motherhood and a passion for creating.

Since becoming a mother, Lara's creative process has evolved, and she’s sure it will never be quite the same as it was before. Yet, she sees a strong connection between motherhood and her artisanal work.

"Embroidering takes time; it's all about focusing on the here and now. Being a mom is very similar—it's about respecting the natural timing of things."

Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship is not without its challenges. Lara shares:

“It’s hard, I must say, but not impossible. I’m very active, I find it difficult to stay still haha, but I try to combine it with motherhood. I plan my day based on her and my work, and every time I go to the store she comes with me, I love it. The day is nicer and we enjoy it more."

For Lara, combining work with caring for Margarita presents not just a challenge but also an opportunity to share special moments as a family.

Before Margarita was born, Lara anticipated that her daily routine would change, but she couldn’t fully grasp how much until it happened. To adjust to her new reality, she learned to accept that every day is different—and that’s okay.

“When I feel I haven’t been as productive as I planned because my priority is my child, I remind myself: What I did today is enough. If I can’t complete a task, tomorrow is a new day, and I’ll tackle it then.”

Lara’s love for illustration is reflected in her embroidery, which she describes as "painting with threads." Her clothing and accessories are inspired by everyday elements like flowers, vintage botanical illustrations, and animals.

"I’ve always drawn since I was very young, and when I grew up, I wanted to continue drawing too!”

she says, and these are the motifs that fill her creations.

Galga was born from the desire to offer customers an enjoyable shopping experience—where they can take their time to select a unique object for their home, enjoy a delicious coffee, or savor a sweet treat. In 2022, a year after opening the first Indian Creek store, Lara and Pato decided to combine their passions—her handmade pieces and his love for pastries and specialty coffee—to create a welcoming space for their clients. What began as a special event hosted at their first shop quickly gained popularity.

“That’s how the dream started. Slowly, we saved money and grew more determined until we could finally open a shop that fully integrates both worlds.”

Lara’s story is one of passion, resilience, and embracing the flow of life’s changes. Through her work, she shows us how the slower rhythms of both motherhood and craftsmanship can lead to a more fulfilling, intentional life.
